The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Murtala Muhammed Airport Command disclosed halting the importation of Tramadol tablets valued at N3.55 billion from Pakistan and India. Compt. Muhammad Yusuf, the Customs Area Controller, revealed this during a press briefing where he also announced the Command's revenue of N74.28 billion generated from imports between January and October 2023.

Compt. Yusuf explained that the interception of the illegal drug shipment was due to suspicions of exceeding the government's permitted threshold. The intercepted Tramadol tablets, suspected to be unregistered pharmaceutical products, exceeded the approved limit set by the Federal Government, with a cumulative Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N3.55 billion.

Highlighting revenue generation, Yusuf noted a significant 23% increase in collections compared to the same period in 2022, reaching N74.28 billion from Customs duties and related charges, surpassing the N60.05 billion collected in 2022. He attributed this success to the dedication of officers ensuring proper declarations by agents and adherence to import/export guidelines and laws.

He urged the Command's officers to remain resolute and committed to their responsibilities, expressing gratitude to the Controller General of Customs, Bashir Adeniyi, for facilitating infrastructure improvements. Yusuf extended appreciation to the officers and called for continued focus and dedication in executing their duties effectively.
