Rhema Ahonsi, a 27-year-old undergraduate at the University of Lagos, has embarked on an ambitious journey to set a Guinness World Record for the longest singing marathon, aiming to become the first Nigerian to achieve this feat. Her aspiration to etch her name into the Guinness World Record books mirrors a growing trend in Nigeria of individuals attempting to break records, spurred on by the groundbreaking achievement of Hilda Baci in the cook-a-thon category.

Hilda Baci earned her place in the Guinness World Records after an impressive 100-hour cooking marathon in May 2023, officially registering a marathon cooking time of 93 hours and 11 minutes. However, her record was later surpassed by Irish chef Alan Fisher, marking the start of new challenges in the realm of world records.

This achievement by Hilda Baci seemed to ignite a spark within Nigerians, prompting several individuals to follow suit in their pursuit of breaking records. Notable personalities like Chef Damilola Adeparusi and masseuse Joyce Ijeoma emerged on this trend. They attempted to break records in their respective fields, with Chef Damilola aiming for a culinary feat and Joyce Ijeoma endeavoring to set the record for the longest continuous massage.

However, this quest for record-breaking glory isn't without its challenges. Joyce Ijeoma's attempt to establish the longest continuous massage record ended abruptly when she collapsed after enduring more than 50 hours of continuous effort.

Rhema Ahonsi's venture to establish the longest singing marathon reflects this newfound enthusiasm among Nigerians to etch their names in the annals of the Guinness World Records, showcasing the nation's burgeoning interest in achieving extraordinary feats and setting new benchmarks in diverse fields.
