The Ogun State Police Command has apprehended two men suspected of ritual activities following the discovery of human remains in Oja Odan, Yewa North Local Government Area of the state. The suspects, identified as Monday Ogunniyi and Oladeyo Idowu, were arrested after a case of abduction turned into a chilling revelation.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, SP Omolola Odutola, detailed the events leading to the arrests. According to the report, the case began when Oladeyo Idowu, a resident of the School 4 area in Oja Odan, reported the alleged abduction of a woman, Regina Oladeyo, at a local police station. Idowu accused Monday Ogunniyi of abducting Regina, prompting the police to launch an investigation.
Upon investigation, police officers discovered Regina Oladeyo at Monday Ogunniyi’s residence in the Okegbala area of Oja Odan. However, what initially seemed like a straightforward case of abduction quickly escalated into a much darker matter.
SP Odutola revealed that during questioning, Ogunniyi admitted to abducting Regina but made a shocking confession that implicated both himself and the complainant, Oladeyo Idowu. According to Ogunniyi, he and Idowu had conspired to perform rituals that required human remains. Further investigations uncovered an arrangement between the two men to obtain body parts from a decomposing corpse for their ritualistic purposes.
“On December 16, 2024, at about 4:30 PM, Oladeyo Idowu reported a case of abduction at the police station, involving Monday Ogunniyi. The police promptly launched an investigation and found the abducted woman, Regina Oladeyo, at Ogunniyi’s residence. During interrogation, Ogunniyi admitted to the abduction but also revealed that both he and the complainant were involved in rituals requiring human remains,” the statement read.
Police detectives then visited a site near a river in the Afige area of Oja Odan, where they uncovered a dried human skeleton dressed in female clothing. The remains were believed to have been used in the suspects’ ritual activities.
SP Odutola further disclosed that Ogunniyi implicated Idowu in storing and dismembering the corpse, with both men taking photographs of the remains. Some exhibits related to the crime were also recovered.
“This case has exposed a heinous act involving the dismemberment of human remains for ritual purposes. The matter has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, for further investigation,” the statement concluded.
The Ogun State Police Command has assured the public that the suspects will face the full weight of the law. The chilling case underscores the dangers of ritual practices and the need for vigilance within communities to prevent such atrocities.
